My name is Cassie Owens and I am a licensed professional counselor with a certification in perinatal mental health (PMH-C). I have been in practice for over 18 years with a dedication to providing therapy services for the unique needs of all women with a specialty in reproductive and maternal mental health. I work with many clients before, during, and after pregnancy inclusive of women who struggle to become pregnant, those who experience miscarriage or loss, complicated pregnancies and also traumatic births.
My other areas of interest and expertise are working with women who experience high levels of anxiety and OCD, women who are athletes or spouses of athletes, women who are balancing career and parenthood, along with empowering women to find their inner peace and happiness in today’s world. I work with many women adjusting to a variety of life situations including change of job, parenthood, divorce or other relationship distress/change, and also I have a special place in my heart to work with women who have experienced grief and loss.
My approach is a blend of solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral methodologies. Listening, showing empathy, and validating feelings also helps too. I’ve been using more and more of ERP (exposure response prevention) method when working with clients who experience OCD like symptoms or ruminating intrusive thoughts. I am also trained in hypnotherapy and use that with many women who have experienced discrete trauma. In the end though, I tailor my style of therapy to meet the unique needs of each individual as well as partnering with my client to create attainable goals. Feeling empowered is an important part of the therapeutic process.
I am experienced in training clinicians, birth workers, and healthcare providers regarding perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I am committed to educating and training other clinicians develop their skills in this very specific and needed niche. To read more about my training and speaking engagements, please click here. I also am a certified professional counselor supervisor (CPCS) and enjoy working with clinicians who are looking for guidance, support, and growth in their career.
Outside of work, I am a wife and mother of 8th and 9th grader (ack, teens!) I am an avid CrossFitter and love the friends and community at our local box! I enjoy spending time with my kids, being involved in their school and activities, and dining with my husband.
